Fun Saturday at Valley View Farms

Thanks to our partners, Lexie of Baltimore County Master Gardeners, Deb from Puppy Love Apparel, and Emily, Regina, and Haley from Best Friends Furever, we had a good time this past Saturday, despite the wind and cooler temperatures.

We met new people and made friends with them too.

We had a pumpkin painting table for the kids. They enjoyed the projects as much as our 'helpers', Cindi and Rachel.

We promise; the paint is washable

Very creative

Lexie Lesser, Master Gardener Coordinator for Baltimore County, led a seminar on Fall Perennial and Landscape Care. A few of our plant people got some sound advice to share with our customers. Attendees asked great questions, which Lexie answered expertly.

Dogs and their humans arrived before 11. Best Friends Furever provided treats for the dogs and their friends. We added Pup Cups and told the group there were Trick or Treat stations all over the store.

We lined the dogs up at noon and paraded through the greenhouse and Christmas Shops, nursery, the pumpkin patch, and finally through the straw maze. Natalie and Bailey led the parade. They were both awesome ambassadors.

Haley, the dino-dog belonging to Best Friends Furever's marketer Emily, was very welcoming to dogs and their families. Regina, also from Best Friends, gave away many treats. People stopped to donate dog food to the Pet Pantry.

Manning the table for Puppy Love Apparel, Deb shared fun stickers with the groups while talking about the t-shirts, hats, socks, and more. The Baltimore-based company donates 10% of its net profit to local dog rescues.

Paul DeRemigis, our resident artist, will be here most weekends between now and year's end.

Thank you to all of our participants. Special thanks also to my coworkers who made signs, set up spaces, prepared and dismantled displays, worked on getting the word out, and so much more. We look forward to our 2nd Annual Halloween Parade in 2027!

Pumpkin Party Time!

Valley View Farms has a long-standing relationship with pumpkins. Decades ago, we grew what we sold, enough to sell: "All you can carry in your two arms for $1".

In 1989, we had our first world record holder, weighing 755 pounds. Today the stage holds "Action Jackson" at 1822 pounds. The world record holders now are over a ton and closing in on 3,000 pounds.

It's October, and we are officially pumpkin crazy! We always have been. The world is too. Events like Garden Glow at Ladew celebrate pumpkin carving and art.

For years, we've delivered press releases about our huge pumpkin to area media outlets, along with a handcrafted, costumed pumpkin.

We have paint-your-own pumpkin workshops for the kids.

Have pumpkin carving parties.

Use pumpkins as planters.

Create dried-flower gardens atop pumpkins.

Plant whole pumpkins with succulents that eventually root into the pumpkin and have to be transplanted.

The variety of pumpkins available to us has grown exponentially.

So we keep finding new uses.

And so far, we're only talking about decorating with them. The culinary world has gone bonkers over pumpkins too.

Enjoy October and everything pumpkin. Stop by and see the 1822-pound "Action Jackson", on display until we open the pumpkin up to count the seeds on Halloween at noon.

Tom, Laurie, and the rest of the Tasselmyer family will count each and every seed.
